Why is Chateauneuf du Pape wine so expensive?
Hi all, I'm fairly new to this subreddit, so if this post doesn't belong here, let me know. I just came back from a trip to the Provence where my girlfriend and I drove along very many vineyards, including the apparently quite famous wine region of Chateauneuf du pape. What I noticed was that, even in french supermarkets, Chateauneuf du pape is basically always more expensive than wines from Vacqueiras or Gigondas, which use the same (or very similar) grapes. Is there something specific that causes the higher price of the Chateauneuf du pape wines or is a big portion of the price just the name/prestige of the area?
Thank you all very much in advance.
